Since Xen has commercial derivatives, we use the original free version, under the exclusive stewardship of the Linux Foundation.
Grâce à sa R&D, Sowneo maîtrise l’hyperviseur Xen en mode PVH. Le mode PVH permet aux instances virtualisées de fonctionner à la vitesse d’un serveur non virtualisé.
Le mode PVH permet également de ne plus utiliser QEMU. Xen contient environ 0.2M SLOC2Single Line Of Code et QEMU contient environ 2M SLOC, la suppression de QEMU réduit la couche d’hypervision d’une magnitude de SLOC, réduisant d’autant la surface d’attaque.
Xen in PVH mode is the simplest and highest-performing solution available on the virtualization market.
The Xen hypervisor is swift. A server with a 12- or 16-core Xeon and 64 GB of RAM will support at least 10 to 20 Linux server instances, depending on the services used and the performance expected.
Xen is so lightweight that a micro-machine with an Atom N2800 with 4 GB of RAM will still allow 3 instances: one for hypervisor control and technical tasks, and two production server instances. This limited configuration remains usable for a small backup server or light monitoring.
